At least 25,000 bikes are missing their owner

Are you one of the unlucky ones who either forgot where you put your bike yourself or where someone removed it for you. Now is the time to pay attention.

At the moment, there are several thousand bicycles in the capital area that have received a greeting from the Copenhagen Municipality’s Technical and Environmental Administration via a yellow adhesive tape attached to the rear wheel with the text “We clean up the bicycles - remove the tape if you use the bicycle.”

Just at Kogens Nytorv, there are alone 50 bicycles missing their owner, man or woman. But the problem is not new. According to the Norwegian Crime Prevention Council, 63 per cent cycle. of people living in the Municipality of Copenhagen to and from study or work, and the majority choose the bicycle because it is the fastest form of transport. Stray bicycles are therefore a recurring problem. In the Capital Region, four out of 10 people have had their bicycle stolen from the street, and one in four has had it stolen from their residence. In recent weeks, the Copenhagen Municipality’s Technical and Environmental Administration has been cleaning up the abandoned bicycles that fill the cityscape and take up parking racks. Copenhagen municipality estimated that there are currently between 23,000 and 25,000 bicycles in Copenhagen.

This corresponds to between 10 and 15 per cent. of all bicycles parked on the municipality’s premises.

In recent years, Copenhagen Municipality has spent man-hours each year marking around the many bicycles and subsequently removing around 7,000 two-wheelers. A task that costs the municipality two million kroner a year. An amount that the Danish company CrowdEyes would like to see used in other areas. That’s why CrowdEyes would like to help you and others get their bikes home safely and save the municipality and society a lot of money.

CrowdEyes cannot find the perpetrator who has stolen or moved the bikes, but they can help you to quickly and easily look for the bike you have lost or search for the owner of the cargo, Racer, fixi or mountain bike you meet on your way , in an efficient and safe way.

CrowdEyes’ CrowdScouts have already been out and uploaded many bikes in the app both from Indre by, Østerbro and Nørrebro, so finally check if you are one of the lucky ones whose bike has been uploaded. Just like the Police, CrowdEyes would like to help ensure that the largest possible share of the collected bicycles is returned to the rightful owner and does not simply end up as scrap.

But CrowdEye’s CrowdScouts can’t just upload all the stray bikes. So when you’re waiting for the bus, the train, the subway or you’re out walking your dog, you can help others just by doing a few simple things.

  • Take a photo of the bike
  • Give a brief description of the bike, such as color, model/type and colour
  • Upload on Crowdeyes under Item

CrowdEyes is available in both the AppStore and Google Play, is free and ad-free for private consumers.

CrowdEyes was founded at the end of 2014 by Jann Kallehauge and is Denmark’s first digital bulletin board that makes it easy to look for lost objects, missing people, pets or look for witnesses to incidents.
